Dear Students,
Blogging is a business for some, and a hobby for many. Even if you are blogging for the love of blogging, it’s nice to be able to make some money from it. The extra income could help pay for your hosting bill and give you some extra cash, or even provide full-time income. Many bloggers use Google Adsense to monetize their blogs, but the program only pays out when a publisher earns a total of $100. For some bloggers, that means that they have to wait months to get their money. Bidvertiser is a popular Adsense alternative that has minimum payouts of only $10 and it is easy to add to any website. Here is how to add Bidvertiser ads to a WordPress blog.
- Sign up for a publisher account at Bidvertiser. All you need to do is fill in some basic contact information and confirm your email address to get started.
- Log into your account, and add websites. Once they have been approved, click the radio button next to the site you want to work with and then click the “Choose Template” button.
- Decide which size ads you want to use. This will depend largely on what part of your blog you will place them on. Vertical banners are usually best for sidebars, and full or half banners work well for ads within posts or in the header or footer. When you have decided, click the corresponding radio button.
- Customize the colors for your ads. You can use one of their color palettes or create your own. When you’re done, click the “Get Ad Code” button and copy your code.
- Log into your blog’s admin panel, and click “Presentation” and then “Theme Editor” to add ads to the header, footer, or single post. Click the link for the section you will be adding them to, find the area where you want your ads, and paste the code in.
- Click “Sidebar Widgets” instead of “Theme Editor” if you’re adding the ads to your sidebar. Add a text widget if you don’t have any available by selecting a larger number from the text widgets menu and clicking save. Then drag the text widget from the Available Widgets area to the place where you want it on the sidebar. Click the configuration icon, paste the code in, close the dialog box and click “Save Changes.”
Tips & Warnings
If you’re not comfortable adding code to your template, copy all of the code for the section and save it in a Notepad file. That way, if you do something wrong you can simply copy and paste the old code back in.

How to Make Money from Affiliate Programs With Your Blog How to Make Money from Affiliate Programs With Your Blog
There are several ways bloggers can make money from their blogs. Text-Link-Ads, Sponsored Reviews and AdSense are some of the most widely used advertising programs by bloggers to monetize their blogs.
In contrast, making money by selling products or promoting affiliate programs is somewhat under- utilised probably because most bloggers find it’s harder to convince readers to part with their hard earned cash.
Hence, many chose the path of least resistance by plastering Amazon product banners for example and hope someone will notice and is tempted enough to purchase the product. Unfortunately that’s the worst way to make money from affiliate programs via your blog.
You will only make money when
The ad is highly related to your article
The ad is strategically placed where it gets the most attention
The ad offers the solution to a problem as highlighted in the article
The ad satisfies the reader’s needs as highlighted in the article
The reader is in the buying mood, although this is not always necessary
Understand Your Readers
Now instead of plastering the affiliate program banner ads, here’s a better way to do it. First and foremost you need to understand your readers. Blogs in general are used to share information and your users visit your blog seeking for good information not to buy products.
Here’s where it’s crucial to realise that when you thought you need to sell something to make money from affiliate program, don’t. Instead, give them the information that creates an open to purchase mindset. They are probably not even aware that you are about to sell them something.
For newly published posts, often they are mostly read by your regular visitors. They already know you, so establishing trust won’t be much of a problem. Ask yourself, do they read your post to gain knowledge that they can use or keep themselves abreast with the latest happenings around the net?
Once your new posts are crawled by the search engines, the keywords the users used to search your blog give you an idea of their level of interest as well as the kinds of benefits they seek.
Write a Product Review That Targets Your Readers Personality
If majority of your readers are your regular readers, not those coming from the search engines, you need to write in a manner that targets their personality type. Write a helpful review, sprinkle new information that could help address their needs and solve their problem, avoid promotional tone in your language that sounds like you are about to sell them something.
The good news is, if you are already doing a sponsored review in your blog, you are half-way there. Only this time, you are reviewing a product they will make you money when your readers purchase it.
While highlighting the products features is important, focusing on the benefits are more important in the review. What will the readers get out of it? Try to make your copy so benefit-focused that they want to read on.
In your attempt trying to convince your readers, it helps if you believe in the products yourself. Don’t just recommend something because of the potential income you could make, but do it because you really think it’ll benefit your readers.
Review Pay per Lead Products If You Don’t Feel Like Selling
You can always recommend pay per lead products instead of the pay per sales ones. My previous post 10 Tips to Help You Make Money With Google Referral 2.0 contains good pointers to help you get started promoting pay per lead affiliate programs.
Some of you may recall that I’ve written about Helium.com where I recommended it as a way to monetize your old blog posts. What if I tell you I was actually paid US8 for each user who sigh up with them?
Unfortunately, while Helium.com accepts registration from all over the world, I am only compensated when the registrant comes from the US . I got a couple of registrations from the review but I didn’t make any money from it since they were mostly non-US leads.
That’s at least until the post is crawled by the search engine and starts appearing in the search engine results. BTW, I came across Helium.com from CJ.com
Here’s another example, the other day John Chow wrote a deal for 250 free business card to promote your blog. I knew right off the bat he was promoting an affiliate program. But he did it in a way that it appears as though it’s just one of his regular posts. So far he made $64.10 from it. That’s how to promote affiliate programs in your blog.
Actually I’ve promoted several affiliate programs in Sabahan.com, and one of the most successful ones is the Day Job Killer ebook review. I think I made about $350 dollars from that single post alone.
I recommended the ebook because I really believe in it. So far, using just one technique from that ebook has allowed me to add an extra USD**** to my bottom-line this month
This Affiliate Program Tutorial aims to give you a quick overview.
It's your road map to success as an affiliate.
I've been earning a good living from affiliate programs since 1998. Based on that experience, this tutorial tells you the 18 steps to take to generate a useful income from affiliate programs.
No tricks. No gimmicks. Just solid, reliable methods designed to work for years.
You have the choice of many different ways of earning affiliate commissions.
In my experience, you'll have your best chance of success if you do the following. Find a niche and create a useful, interesting, content-rich, keyword-rich website on one topic and weave in affiliate links and AdSense ads.
This method - with the more recent addition of AdSense ads - has worked beautifully for me since 1998.
I urge you to master this basic method. It's a bit like serving an apprenticeship.
As part of your apprenticeship you'll learn SEO (search engine optimization) skills, copywriting skills and various other Internet marketing skills which will prove to be invaluable, whatever route you choose next.
With any luck, you'll have a bit of fun, too! I do.
I include Google's AdSense in this tutorial. Strictly speaking, AdSense is an advertising network. However, in many ways it's similar to an affiliate program. I think AdSense is fantastic. It's free to join, free to use and easy to use.
It's often much easier to earn good money from AdSense than affiliate programs, so it's essential that you include AdSense in your plans.
OK. Let's get started...
STEP 1: Set a goal
If you want to go somewhere, you need to know where you're going.
Let's start with a modest goal. Say you aim to earn a total of $300 (US) a month in affiliate commissions and AdSense revenue. Imagine what you could do with that money. A holiday? A better lifestyle?
I've kept the amount low, because it's important that you believe you can do this. Achieve small successes first, see the money in your hands or in your bank account, and then increase your goals.
Perhaps you have much larger goals. That's OK. Whatever your goals, I strongly recommend that you serve your apprenticeship by taking these 18 steps. They'll give you solid knowledge and experience on which to build your affiliate business.

Find your niche
STEP 2: Find your niche
To help you find your niche topic, read Ken Evoy's free Affiliate Masters Course and use the excellent advice in it to find a niche that suits you and your interests.
Print out the Affiliate Masters Course, find a quiet, comfortable spot and read it several times.
Spend a lot of time thinking carefully about this and jotting down notes. You're planning a business, so don't rush it. It's very important.
You'll probably avoid Internet marketing topics because that field is so overcrowded and competitive. It's much easier to succeed if you locate a less competitive niche.
Choose a topic that is easy to write about.
Even if you've already chosen a niche, I urge you to read the Affiliate Masters Course. It might make you change your mind.
You can follow your passion or chase the money. With luck - and a bit of keyword research - you may be able to do both.
Examine your potential competitors
If you're considering building a site about hiking boots, type "hiking boots" (using quotation marks) into Google and Yahoo! and carefully examine the top 10 sites which appear in the search results.
They're your real competitors. Can you create a better, more interesting, more useful site? Can you think of a new angle, a new approach?
Do those top 10 sites all have high PageRank - say 6 or more? If so, you'll have to work really hard to get in the top 10.
Let's say the top 3 sites in Google are PageRank 8, 7 and 6. If so, you'll probably have to work hard for a couple of years or more to outrank them. I'm not saying it cannot be done, but it will require either a great deal of work, or a very innovative, eye-catching approach.
You can quickly check the PageRank of your potential competitors by using Seochat's free online tool - http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/pagerank-search . Type in "hiking boots" or whatever and you'll be able to see the PageRank of the top 10 sites.
Do those sites all have the phrase in the title? (The title is the words that appear at the very top of your screen when you visit a site.) If not, you may be able to beat them.
How many links do your potential competitors have?
Do your potential competitors all have thousands of links to them? This is important, because links are important to search engines. You need good, relevant links to your site. To find out how many sites are linking to a site, use the free Yahoo! Site Explorer. Go to http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com - and login (set up a free account if necessary).
Type the URL of the site you want to explore.
Click on "Explore URL".
Click on "Inlinks".
Modify your search to make it more useful. Select the options to show Inlinks "except from this domain" and "entire site". This will exclude internal links and show you all external links that Yahoo! knows about to ANY page of the website.
If your potential sites have thousands of links to them, they're likely to be very tough competitors.
Don't decide definitely on a niche topic until you've taken the next two steps...
